PROSPECTS FOR SUCCESS

Prospect is relevant to make your success reliable. Success by accident, most times referred to as ‘luck’ might not get far but success with deliberate effort will stand you in good stead.

I vividly remember a post on EXCEL where I alluded to ‘a man diligent in his business’ adapted from the biblical reference. In that post I emphasized the place of actualizing excellence in respect of your business, now I am adding that even if you are in your business, you need prospect.

To gain relevance in your business, you need to have a prospect like a prospector…

FOOD; FOR THOUGHT

I woke to type...

In my dream I attended a programme and afterwards food was shared, however, though the food was enough (tautology you might think), for some reasons the servers chose not to serve it all and invariably some did not get food, but with a promise to continue serving later.

Their promise to share later on came true as minutes later I heard a rushing sound and it was the food sharing exercise. People scrambled for the take-away packs even those who got earlier and as I stood there I wondered why there was so much commotion, just because of food.

I remember while I was an undergraduate that students did not respect queues when it came to food.

So I was inspired to write about the essence of food. At this point, I’d like to take you back to the title of this piece: food; for thought. Please note that I didn’t write food for thought.

The essence of food is to have strength to carry on, not for indulgence.

Finally a passage from the Bible summarizes it:

Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! Ecclesiastes 10:16-17

Excellence is not a birthright. Inherited wealth is not tantamount success nor is it tantamount to excellence.

I will suggest that instead of settling for normalcy as is the case, we should strive hard and employ the phrase “to whom much is given, much is expected” in our strive for excellence.

Don’t compare yourself using “I’m better off”; compare yourself using “am I well off?”

Therefore, question your current status and move ahead.

I SHOULD BE READING FOR MY EXAM…

This morning I went jogging as usual and as usual I was inspired to write this piece though I should be preparing for my examination.

The main point of discourse today is centered on the sentence below:

“To an old man, jogging maybe somewhat too fast a pace for him or her to keep up with…”

I hope you didn’t just read through the above sentence; because if you did, you probably just missed the point I am trying to unveil.

Most times we * tend to (in our desire to be gender sensitive) commit blunder. In the sentence above, the reporter said (but please note no specific reporter is referred to here; it’s just an analogy,) that “to an old man” referring only to a “man” afterwards the sentence read “for him or her”. Now I guess you got the point.

If you make a mistake from the beginning and you try to correct it, I think it is better to go back and correct it rather than try to forward correct it.

The sentence of our discourse could have been totally changed to read:

“To the old, jogging maybe somewhat too fast a pace to keep up with”

Main point/lesson: We should try to have the gumption to correct our mistakes by going back (when we can) rather than trying to play around it.

I will like to refer to the two as:

FORWARD CORRECTION and BACKWARD CORRECTION

Sometimes or most times rather it is explicit to expect that the best most times flow with current phenomenon of developmental progress. We shouldn’t expect old ideas to take preeminence over new ones in this dispensation and so I present to you an emerging entrepreneur in an emerging country like ours.

It is quite not inconvenient to write about my own brother, however, my subjectivity is subject to profound creativity evident in the character of this entrepreneur.

There is a popular Christian parlance “HE (GOD) works in ways we cannot see”

I tried to figure out if GOD will really want us to be in the dark, so I juxtaposed earthly parental relationship and peer friendships. Sometimes we go for surprises to wow our children and friends as a sign of care and love, but the fact that they didn’t know until the d-day doesn’t suggest to me they were or are oblivious of the gift in question; I would rather admit, they merely chose not to know.

However, there are some big time surprises; also there is most times negligence on our part.

Most times the things you get as surprises as things you have earlier talked about with the person(s) during interactions.

Get the best of your focus, don’t zoom in too much and lose the real deal.
